Maximum word count of 200 words or maximum video length of 2 minutes.
DO NOT include either data table or any of the populations from either data table.
DO NOT include any of your calculations.
DO NOT include any form of the words compare, difference, ratio, absolute, or relative.
You will choose which cities to talk about and how to organize your article or video, but you must include the following, in any order:
A city-to-city comparison using a ratio Explain how this is evidence of an axolotl invasion.
Pre-writing steps:
Choose two cities from the 2023 table.
Divide the larger population by the smaller population to find how many times bigger the larger city is.
Round to the nearest tenth or the nearest whole number (your choice).
Put this number and the city names into a sentence of the general form ″˂larger city˃ is ˂number˃ times bigger than ˂smaller city˃.″
Use your own words and sentence structure.
A city-to-city comparison using the difference in population (absolute change)
Pre-writing steps:
Choose two cities from the 2023 table that you did not use yet.
Subtract the populations.
Round to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, or hundred thousand (your choice, as long as the result has at least one non-zero digit).
Put this number and the city names into a correct sentence of the general form ″˂City A˃ has ˂number˃ ˂more/less˃ people than ˂City B˃.″
Use your own words and sentence structure.
Increase and decrease
Pre-writing steps:
From the 4 cities that appear on both the 2023 table and the 2000 table, choose one whose population increased and one whose population decreased.
You′ll express the change in population for one city using absolute change and for the other using relative change.
Absolute change:
Subtract the two populations.
Round to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, or hundred thousand (your choice, as long as the result has at least one non-zero digit).
Relative change:
Subtract the two populations.
Divide the result by the old population (from the 2000 table).
Convert the result to percent form.
Round to a whole percentage or tenth of a percent (your choice, as long as the result has at least two nonzero digits).
Put each result and city name into a sentence of the general form ″˂City˃′s population ˂increased/decreased˃ by ˂number˃ ˂people/%˃ from 2000 to 2023.″
Use your own words and sentence structures.
Include an introduction and transitional phrases to fit the individual sentences together into a united whole article
