I’m applying to CRNA school and I have to write a personal statement. This is my third time applying to the program. I received an interview last year but I didn’t get the spot. I invited to interview again this year but I haven’t to submit a new personal statement.
Since last years interview I decided to Shadow again to make sure that my goals to be a CRNA hasn’t changed. The highlight of my experience was sitting in on a case with a senior level CRNA student and a PRN CRNA who worked as a CRNA instructor. The experience was eye opening because it not only gave me a look at the level of satisfaction from working as a CRNA but in gave me a look at the process to get there.
One of the reasons I choose CRNA to be gain with was from a surgical experience. I am a true crime fan and I listen to podcasts in my spare time. One of the stories that stuck with me was Sherman Sizemore. His story scared me to death of surgery. So when it was time to have surgery, it wasn’t a typical I’m worried because it’s surgery feeling I was seriously terrified of going to sleep. I remember the CRNA the day of my procedure introduce himself and he explained the procedure. The next thing I knew was he was standing next to me saying everything went well. From that day I had an entire look on anesthesia and I knew what type of nurse I wanted to be.
Over the past few years, I’ve thought about other careers but nothing seems to satisfy my interest more than being CRNA. As a bedside nurse I’ve spoken to many coworkers and I swear none of them are satisfied in their career. I’ve spoken to many NPs who have went back to bedside nursing because they couldn’t reach satisfaction in their career. I’ve never talked to a CRNA who wasn’t happy and satisfied in their career. That’s where I want to be, I want to be happy everyday I walk in to work and I want to feel like I be autonomy to the table.
