Discussion Assignment was…
What ratings comprise investment-grade bonds and what ratings are used for junk bonds? What are the primary differences between the two? In particular, why are investment-grade bonds more marketable and why are junk bonds issued at all?
Please write responses to the students posts below. Example response from another student on a discussion below…
EX) “I completely agree with your post, and it brings a lot of information and helps connect the dots and brings up examples to give us better insight. Do you think advertising communication is also a form of human communication or do you think they are too different? For me I think that advertising communication is a form of human communication because its still human to human interaction just not always face to face. I loved your post and I hope to see more from you in the weeks following. Good luck on this class, your other classes, and your quarter.”
This is not the best example because the responses need to include some knowledge. on the topic from the dicussion not just “great job.”
Student A Discussion Post:
Hello Everyone,
Although I believe human communication and advertising communication can seem be the same thing at times it is important to understand that they are different. Advertising communication is used to relay information to consumers, and it targets a select group of individuals to give them awareness of a product or service whereas human communication can be anything and target whomever you are communicating with. Human communication is used to make connections and evoke emotions toward other humans, advertising does the same thing, but it is directed toward products and services. I look at it as advertising communication is a form of human communication in just like soda is a form of water; soda is water based but it is definitely not nutritious and does not hydrate you the same. Although a lot of the same base it still is very much different and works very differently than one another.

Student B Discussion Post:
Hey Class,
The key difference is that in advertising communication there is only a couple seconds worth of interest that the general audience will give. This means that a huge portion of the message sent will be through visuals such as body language, audio such as music, and a brief amount of actual words. The need to articulate a theme and message through all of the senses and not just the ears with words, that is the key difference I would say. From there, it becomes obvious that advertising communication is rather abrasive and pushy. Advertising is communication with intent, it is messaging to entice you for whatever purpose. It is also usually ignored, and being creative to get attention gets more and more difficult. In human communication we are much less creative with powerful messaging. Human communication is generally two individuals who have both engaged in conversation with the intent to listen to each other. There is no such need for advertising extravagence, like giant billboards.
Funny advertisement I heard on the radio recently, on a sidenote. He starts to jabber and then says, “wait, you mean I only have to repeat the name and you will instantly have it on the mind? fine.” and goes on to say the name of their very popular chocolate, “REESES” repetitively for about 20 seconds straight. At the time, i was not impressed, but did also agree it was working. There is so much brand recognition for them, that hearing that chocolate name only for a few seconds had my attention completely on orange wrappers with 2 classicly thin and smooth chocolately peanutty cups inside. I am not usually much of a chocolate person, but I do like Reeses, and damn that ad worked. Thanks for the read yall.
