It is safe to say that between medical surgical nursing, pharmacology, Nursing 121L-A, and Nursing 121L-B, it was the most stressed I have been in a long time. Each course offered an abundant amount of information of which I was able to learn in depth and I know it will be a good foundation for me in my future endeavors. In each course I was able to acknowledge my strengths and my weaknesses. Courses are much more enjoyable when you have professor who is understanding, eager to teach, always willing to listen, and giving their best. I was lucky enough to have this professor during my introduction to medical surgical. Professor really made it easier to understand the concepts in med surg. She explained lessons thoroughly and helped to get a better understanding of the information that was being taught from the Lewis book. The most interesting subject that we learned in this course was about the cardiovascular system. I never really understood the disease of the heart until I took Med Surg 1 with ourprofessor. I now what to tell my grandparents to reduce in their diet or in their daily lives because it can cause them a heart attack due to the underlying causes they already have. Pharmacology was also another difficult course but because we went over the medications that were used to treat certain disease in Med Surg I was able to better understand the medications when they were taught in Pharmacology. It was difficult to understand the medications, it was almost similar to learning a new language. However, because the disease were taught well and we went over medications in Med Surg it made it easier to understand in my Pharmacology class. I really enjoyed my lab class that was taken on campus with our Professor. She was amazing in explaining concept and showing us how to properly perform certain techniques. We learned a lot about UTIs in Med Surg and I was able to practice inserting an indwelling catheter with the help and guidance of our Professor. As far as the Swift river class went, it was horrible and I don’t believe that it benefits us in any way. I did not learn anything from that class and I hope that I never have to take another Swift River class ever again. I know that this med surg class with our professor was a great foundation for me and it will follow me through my Med surg classes to come. I enjoyed this course and was able to really understand important information. According to the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for professional nursing, it is an essential factor in nursing for a student to acquire the proper knowledge and skills in leadership, improving quality outcomes, and ensuring the safety of the patient are an essential factor in providing quality outcomes in the field (AACN, 2008). I was taught in both my lab class and my lecture class the skills needed to succeed in this area.
