The main element lacking in online classes is the contact between students and between students and instructor. The Discussion Board enables us to somehow compensate for this lack of face-to-face interaction.
The weeks we have a discussion (there are four in all), start participating as early as possible (by Wednesday at the latest) and respond to at least three other students before the end of the week. Please read the syllabus and the grading rubric (posted at the end of the syllabus) for details on this assignment.
Topic: This week is very easy. I would like you to do the following:
Introduce yourself to the class and say who you are and what you study, stating where you are from and whether you live on campus. Talk about your work, family, pets, studies, hobbies, travels, anything that you think defines you (and are willing to share!) Share with others what you know about Africa in general, and the arts in particular; share your impressions, the images that come to your mind when you think about Africa, including the sources that formed your perceptions. There is no right or wrong response here, we just want to start examining together the basis of our “knowledge” about other places.
Instructions:
Click on the link above
Create a new thread inside “Introductions”
Write your full name as the Subject title
Introduce yourself to the group and share your perceptions of Africa (see above)
Remember that, besides your main entry, you should respond to at least three other students.
There is no assigned length for this first week, but you should write at least two solid paragraphs.
