original writing prompt:
Cognitive psychologists study how individuals think about the world around them. You were introduced to the major topics of cognitive psychology in Chapter 1. The following chapter, Chapter 2, introduced you to the field of cognitive neuroscience and how understanding the brain can assist us in more fully understanding cognition. How important do you think the brain is in understanding cognition? Provide at least two example of how brain research informs out understanding of human thought processes.

classmate’s response:
I believe the brain plays a really important role in understanding cognition. Cognitive neuroscience, as introduced in Chapter 2, reveals that the brain’s structure and function directly influence our thought processes. For example, research on the prefrontal cortex highlights its role in decision-making and problem-solving (Miller & Cohen, 2001). In addition, studies on the hippocampus demonstrate its importance in memory formation (Squire, 1992). These insights underscore how brain research deepens our understanding of cognitive functions, bringing together the gap between abstract thought and biological mechanisms. If we didn’t think about the brain, our comprehension of cognition would remain incomplete.
