Nurses across all levels of care engage in asking and answering clinical questions with the goal of improving patient outcomes. It is crucial for nurses to be well-versed in nursing research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement, all while understanding their purpose, how they’re similar and how they all differ. The purpose of nursing research is to generate new knowledge and validate existing knowledge through scientific inquiry. On the other hand, the purpose of evidence based practice is to integrate the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values to help improve patient outcomes conducted by nurses and other health professionals. The purpose of quality improvement is make a positive change in healthcare addressing specific problems within a healthcare facility (Beck, 2021, pg. 193). Nursing research, evidence based practice and quality improvement all share the common goal of enhancing patient care and outcomes. They are similar because they all employ a systematic approach involving a structured, methodical process to address the healthcare issues. Also all three rely on data collection and analysis to make informed decisions. However, they all differ because nursing research has a broad scope that can be applied widely across various healthcare settings and populations. Meanwhile, in evidence based practice, it is the integration of the best available evidence into clinical practice and quality improvement targets a specific process within a particular healthcare setting. They also differ methodically because nursing research uses scientific methods such as randomized controlled trials, evidenced based practice is the critical analysis of existing research and quality improvement employs various methods of tests in a controlled manner, measuring results and making improvements.
Literature reviews can be used as a method to search articles more efficiently and after reading the article Self Efficiency Program to Prevent Osteoporosis Among Chinese Immigrants, I concluded that the article does not contain a literature review. I believe there is no literature review because a literature review does not typically include objectives, methods, results, discussion or keyword section; this is more appropriate for a research article (Goodfellow, 2023). Also, throughout the article I did not find an introduction explaining what the study is for. The sources are related to the study topic because they provide background information and previous research finding that support the studies rationale. The resources used in this study support the study because they provide the number of Asian patients affected by osteoporosis and evidence of why they are at a high risk for developing osteoporosis.
