This week’s reading from Gardner and Barefoot’s “Understanding Your College Experience: Strategies for Success” offers practical information that can be applied immediately across various areas of life. The introduction of SMART goals provides a structured approach to setting and achieving objectives, which can enhance productivity at school by breaking down assignments into manageable tasks and setting clear deadlines. At home, applying SMART goals can help organize personal projects or family activities effectively. The concept of exploring one’s purpose is another valuable takeaway, as it fosters self-awareness and can guide informed decision-making in academic and career paths, as well as in personal life. Additionally, creating an action plan by breaking down goals into smaller, actionable steps can make complex projects more manageable, whether at work, home, or school. Lastly, strategies for overcoming obstacles are practical for maintaining resilience and adaptability when facing challenges in various settings. By incorporating these insights, you can improve organizational skills, goal-setting practices, and overall management of tasks and challenges.
Victoria Post
I really resonated with the information from this weeks topic of goal setting because it happened to me. When I left high school I immediately went into a community college and got my associates degree. My end goal was always to go to med school or PA school. Community college was just a stepping stone and I “just needed to graduate”. When I got to the 4-year university and my end goal kind of “fell apart” I ended up dropping out because I didn’t have any goals.
I feel like now I am better prepared because I have a goal. I feel like learning how to set more concise and achievable goals will aid in the completion of a degree.
