Here you are a group of managerial consultants who have been hired to analyze a set of
problems/issues that an organization or workgroup is experiencing. You are to develop your own
original case report by describing this real organization’s work situation, detailing the problems
/issues that exist, diagnosing the causes, and recommending solutions or strategies for change.
You are writing the report knowing that it is to be delivered to a senior manager of the
organization.
Topics
Any OB-related issues of interest to you (e.g. motivation, stress, intra/inter-group processes,
leadership, change, decision making, managing diversity). It is wise to tackle only a few issues
(i.e. 3-4) so as not to dilute your efforts, all the while recognizing that many issues are
intertwined. Be careful to integrate your analysis and recommendations when dealing with the
organization’s issues.
Sources
The source for these issues will be organizational members. Members are expected to use an
interview from which the groups can discover, analyze, and give recommendations to
organizational issues. I DO NOT want you to meet the interviewee in person if social distancing
procedures are still in effect. If needed, interviews can be done virtually using video conferences,
phone calls, and emails.
You must also do some additional research (including a minimum of 5 sources) into the OB
topics you have chosen. You can use material from the business press (e.g. Business Week,
Canadian Business, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fortune,) and academic journals (e.g. Academy
of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Harvard Business Review,
Organizational Behaviour and Human Decision Processes) or from other texts. Be wary to avoid
sources such as Wikipedia, Local Press, Reuters, etc.
Guide the reader by structuring the presentation of your arguments.
Write for the “educated” OB reader, i.e. do not reiterate definitions given in your text.
Use proper referencing (e.g. APA style) of all material taken from journals, magazines, or books.
