Informal leaders must consider how to use influence and interpersonal skills to address conflict. Formal leaders, on the other hand, must focus on using authority and structured processes. Both informal and formal leaders must incorporate strategies to foster a culture of safety within the team, emphasizing the importance of trust, open communication, and respect. This activity will allow you to practice cultivating a culture of safety within a team setting and also practice skills necessary for Project Two.
Scenario
You have just started your shift and witness a conversation between a night shift nurse and day shift nurse discussing tasks left undone by the night shift. Following this interaction, you determine that you need to develop strategies to address the concerns of the day shift nurse and how the concerns were communicated to the night shift nurse/staff.
Directions
