The final paper should examine sources of theology, the doctrine of God, Christology, pneumatology, and the doctrine of the Trinity in the context of modernity. In addition, the paper should probe their ramifications for church ministry and other forms of public life. In that order, the final paper will be evaluated by logical organization, mastery of the material, and creativity. Logical organization: the ability to organize the paper in a clear and coherent way backed up with evidence, course material, other literature, and observation. Mastery of the material: demonstrating understanding of the course material and other sources pertinent to the paper. Creativity: students are encouraged to infuse course material with creative ideas; however, that should not come at the expense of logical organization and mastery of the material.

As a part of logical organization, you are expected to demonstrate how the sources of theology you selected impact your doctrines and the ensuing practices.

So, while working out YOUR theology, you should, among other things:

1. Demonstrate a substantial engagement with course material, and perhaps other sources,
2. Some of that engagement should be with “in the context of modernity” or with Enlightenment and post-Enlightenment theologians.
3. You should explore the ramifications of your theology “for church ministry and other forms of public life.” In other words, you should reflect how your theology reflects or would reflect in worship and other forms of activity in and outside the church. It does not have to be comprehensive.
4. And, of course, you should show how you draw your theology from the sources you mentioned in the beginning. You can do it, in part, while engaging with sources. In so doing, err on the side of clarity. It’s good to mention each of the sources you stated at the outset at least once in your paper, connecting it with the material you drew from that source.
