For this week’s discussion, review the weekly readings and the textbook exercise: “Survey: Cooperative, Competitive, or Individualistic Orientation” in Chapter 5 on page 105.
As you develop your main discussion post, recall a team 1) you do work on or 2) have worked on. Integrate your ideas and perspectives using of the following questions:
Describe your individual results. Do you agree with the results? Explain why or why not.
Describe your team based on the orientation of the collective members. How many cooperators, competitors and/or individualists? What is/was that like?
What can you do to make yourself a better team player, whether you are 1) highly cooperative, 2) highly competitive or 3) highly individualist?
What role can emotional intelligence play in team communications as described in Chapter 6?
Which power style, described in Chapter 8, is the most appropriate for teamwork? How can this style be encouraged?
Participation credit in this weekly discussion will be based on the following structure:
The initial post should be approximately 300-350 words in length and made by Thursday evening at 11:59pm ET.
All posts must incorporate learning gained from the weekly readings and be substantive, relevant, and respectful, and contribute value to the discussion.
The two reply posts should be a minimum of 125 words in length and may be made any time before Sunday evening by 11:59pm ET. Each reply post must speak directly to the role emotional intelligence and its relevant components play in team communications.
The goal is to further the discussion by asking questions about a peer’s post or offering a different perspective on the topic they present.
“I agree” types of posts are fine to make, but they do not count towards the minimum posting requirement.
