TOPIC: 9/11
As a 500-word essay
• Essays should be double-spaced, 12-point font, with 1” margins
• You should follow APA or Chicago format for citations & references
The presentation should connect the session’s readings to a recent event (e.g. in the last few years). The event can be an intelligence failure, successful military/intelligence operation, or similar event. Your job is to describe the event and analyze key aspects (e.g., reasons for success or failure) in terms of function, process, and structure. The briefing is expected to be brief, clear, and concise.
You will have quite a bit of freedom to conduct your presentation as you see fit, but it should include, at minimum, (1) a brief description of the specific event that occurred including background & context, (2) a connection of this event to your readings that addresses any relevant INTS, their function, process, and structure, and any issues associated with their collection (e.g., “Does this event highlight contentious ethical issues related to a specific INT?”; “Does this event highlight limitations or strengths of certain INTs?”; What does this event suggest about the future of intelligence collection & analysis?”), and (3) some discussion questions you would like your audience to consider related to your presentation.
Necessary readings: (You don’t have to read them all, but they are important information which you can just browse through the chapters.)
